TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter - I am very happy with this adapter. It's cheaper than most competitors, yet performs much better. I have a half dozen different wireless adapters in my house. I bought all different models to test them out. This TP-LINK is by far the best performer. It sees more wireless networks and maintains a better connection.

It is much bigger than most USB adapters, especially with the big antenna sticking out the side. But that's the price you pay for better performance. I also had to install drivers on my Win7 64 computer. Most USB adapters are plug&play.

Toshiba Canvio 500 GB USB 3.0 Basics Portable Hard Drive - HDTB105XK3AA (Black)

Toshiba Canvio 500 GB USB 3.0 Basics Portable Hard Drive - HDTB105XK3AA (Black) - I have had the hard drive for a few days now. I was surprised at how small it was when I opened it. I have a 500gb external hard drive that is a few years old and you have to plug it in and its rather large. This one is small, sleek, and fast. Much faster than my old hard drive. I reformatted it to FAT32 so I can use it with my PS3. Works like a charm. I was a little surprised that it didnt have any air holes for venting heat, but I transferred 100gb of data onto it and it was barely warm. I am very excited about it. It is very light which kind of gives it a delicate feel, so I bought a case for it ($8) which I think will definitely increase the lifespan of it.

I will come back with another review if anything goes wrong, but im loving it so far.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC - I have never had a dedicated document scanner before. In the past, I used the Auto-document feeder on my all-in-one printer/scanner/fax machines to scan documents into adobe acrobat. That meant for each batch of papers, I needed to set the color/resolution/paper size/quality settings and then work through Acrobat in order to save each file. It worked, but it was slow going.

Then I bought this new scansnap 1500, based on the ratings of the earlier model (the scansnap 510). I installed only the main program to my computer (the software also includes OCR programs, organizational programs, and acrobat 9, which I already have). I hooked up the scanner and stuck in a stack of old notes I took from some college courses--some notes were in color, some were b&w, some on two sides, some on one side, and some of the pages were upside down. I hit the only button on the machine (SCAN), and to my sheer amazement, it started flying through the stack of notes without any additional prompts or effort. It then automatically saved my file as a pdf--all of the pages were in order, color pages were in color, b&w pages were in b&w, etc. The only issue I noticed was that if there were any marks whatsoever on the back side of my note papers, it included those blank pages in the file.

I repeated this process with any papers I could get my hands on. I even tried sticking in papers of varying sizes, and it sped through them all without a problem. I am officially hooked. (In a moment of either stupidity or genius, I sliced the spine off of an old book and scanned that in too.)

I did notice a few things that are worth mentioning specifically: 1) This scanner is much smaller than it looks. I was expecting something the size of a inkjet printer, but it is actually about the size of a loaf of bread. 2) You have to place the papers GENTLY into the scanner or it will jam. If I push the papers in too far, it pulls through several pages at a time and the software warns you to start over. 3) I am running the software on Windows 7 RC1, so I can tell you that, at least in my case, it will work on Win7.

ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch (21.5-Inch Vis) Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED Monitor with Integrated Stereo Speakers

ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch (21.5-Inch Vis) Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED Monitor with Integrated Stereo Speakers - I just received an order of 2 of these. I've been using them for the past couple of hours. The screens are absolutely beautiful.

Pros
-Great color, perfect picture
-First screen I've never had to change the color settings on.
-Sturdy stand, minimal screen wobble
-Perfect size
-Easy on the eyes
-Great brightness
-No dead/stuck pixels
-Windows 7 automatically installed the driver for the screen

Cons
-The speakers are awful (what did you expect?)
-The screen didn't look perfect before the driver was installed, definitely install it
-The menu is not very intuitive, took a few seconds to figure out
-Changing volume is a pain
-When screen is completely black, there is a little bit of light bleed on the edges

Notes
-Don't buy these for the speakers, unless it's an office environment
-If using speakers, just turn the volume up to 100 on the screen and control it from the computer
-Remember to install the monitor driver

This is really a great monitor! As a programmer, I'm extremely happy to have two of these when working on projects.

Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router

Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router - This wireless router, besides supporting Linux firmware, is a tested and true wireless router with 802.11 b and g support. It supports WPA, WPA2 and the older WEP encryption schemes. In addition, it has a built-in firewall, MAC address filtering, and supports access policies (such as "don't allow FTP connections to this computer on Sundays").

When I installed this wireless router, setup was very straightforward (I did not use the Setup Wizard because it didn't work for me). I changed the IP address range (because the DSL modem uses the 192.168.1 address space), set the administrator password, chose a name for the Wireless network, enabled WPA2 encryption and picked a passphrase.

After that, I connected my laptop to the router right away, and received an excellent signal and throughput of 100 KB/sec (for comparison, my DSL connection maintains a throughput of 300 KB/sec when I connect straight to the DSL modem).

I've been using the router for several months now, and have not had any dropped connections (my older Netgear router dropped connections fairly frequently and did not support the newer WPA encryption scheme) and have consistent throughput. The router has been running constantly for these past few months.

For the real tech-heads, this router has customized Linux firmware available from third parties. I haven't tried this firmware, since the base Linksys firmware more than meets my needs.
